Reactionary and anti-modern

Sir,
I must protest!
After having read several of the back editions of your magazine “Oriens”, I am sorry to say that it is probably the most reactionary and anti-modern magazine that I have ever had the misfortune to encounter.
Thanks for the “Light”

Sir,
I really enjoyed the Oriens leading article “A Light Shining In The Darkness” (Autumn 1997).
Too often “traditional” Catholics not only shy away from, but look askance at, “evangelical” Catholics. This is unfortunate as all Christians, and especially Catholic Christians, are called to preach the Gospel to the four corners of the earth by none other than Christ Himself.
Catholics and Islam

Sir,
I was very surprised to read Dr. McGavan’s criticism of Fr. Webb’s article, ‘The Cross and the Crescent’ in the August-October edition of Oriens. In his article, Father Webb simply makes explicit, in a very clear, concise manner, Pope John Paul II’s statement that, ‘For this reason not only the Theology but also the Anthropology of Islam is very distant from Christianity.’ (Crossing the Threshold of Hope, 1994)
