Reactionary and anti-modern

9 November, 2011 1 Comment

I must protest!

After having read several of the back editions of your magazine “Oriens”, I am sorry to say that it is probably the most reactionary and anti-modern magazine that I have ever had the misfortune to encounter.

Your magazine attacks, at the cultural level, everything we have sought to achieve since the Second Vatican Council and it undermines all the attempts made in my lifetime to drag a mediaeval Catholic Church into the modern world.

“Oriens” magazine attacks, by implication,  the intellectual standing of  many great and good and sincere Catholics who have made it the work of their lives to give the Church a contemporary voice and face.

    Fear of the small

    Mr Greystain,

Traditionalists are, by their very definition, anti-modern. Modern Catholics who accept the tripe served up by contemporary culture have done a sterling job at destroying traditional Catholic culture, belief and liturgy since Vatican II.

As traditionalists constitute a small group within the Church, I would request that you respect our right to promote the very thing that ‘modernistas’ have tried to destroy over the past 40 years – the ancient Latin liturgy. We have the right to be as anti-modern as we like, and we have nothing to be ashamed of. There are an adequate number of forums for modern Catholics to voice their opinions – for eg. their local Novus Ordo parishes.

Why are modern Catholics so threatened by us..?
